When I left for India I didn`t know anything about what was waiting for me here at Mary`s Matriculation school, and I didn`t even imagine that it would have turned out to be one of the best experience of my life. Here I found a family, I experienced the hard and incredible work of the teacher, I met fantastic children and I made a big gift to myself: I grew up. I will never forget the smiles that since the first day till the last second surrounded me during these incredible six weeks.Teaching at Mary`s is not just a work or a volunteering experience, it is a real life-changing experience.
Being able to teach underprivileged children at Mary's was a blessing opportunity for me. Working at this school not only improved my teaching skills through challenges like language barriers and a different educational system, but through staying at the principal's house it also brought me closer to the open-minded Indians as well as their diverse culture. My experience at Mary's encouraged me to continue my teaching career and made me fall in love with the India itself, as I had plenty of chances to travel, which is why I am coming back this year.
When the life gives you an opportunity to change oneself, a challenge which makes you stronger – never miss it. My voluntary work at Mary’s school is not only a chance to practice my teaching skills but also an adventure where I reveal the unique beauty of India. Every day I acquire valuable knowledge that make me grow up. In the children’s eyes I see the genuine desire to learn about the world all they can, and that gives me an incentive to be better for them, to change ourselves together. That is the feeling which makes the life worthwhile.
Volunteering at Mary’s has been nothing less than a life-changing experience. The feeling of making a difference in these kids’ lives is beyond words and your sense of it only grows with your time here. It’s incredible how a whole school can become your family as it accepts you into its community, revealing not only its educational system, but also individual homes, religions and habits.
